Raining Cats and Dogs

Hello all!

I can't believe it's springtime - I have been very busy drawing portraits of so many beloved fur-babies! The above pictures are a sampling of two recent such pieces.

The framed cats were created for a client who wanted a picture of all three of her kitties. Unfortunately, they would not sit together for a reference picture. Because the three separate photos she had provided me were so adorable, I suggested that we use a triple matted frame. Rather than drawing all three felines in the same picture, I did them each individually (4x6). By keeping the same background in each picture, it gives one a feeling of continuity, which connects the three into a completed piece. The client was most pleased with the final outcome.

The second portrait is that of two best buddies. This example is shown unframed, but the final (8x10) piece of artwork was matted, and framed in an 11x 14 frame, before being presented to the client.

Because my pet portraits are created using chalk pastels, each piece is sprayed and secured in a matte before being placed into a frame. This process not only gives your special pet portrait a beautiful finished look but it also ensures the piece is protected upon receiving.

Remember, pet portraits also make an original and thoughtful gift to present to the animal lover in your life!

As always, thank you for viewing my work and have an amazing day!

Peace out,

mj
